With huge thanks to the publishers for allowing us a copy of the book, they warned us this one would break our hearts and honestly this one really did. Despite the warning and thinking I’d prepared myself for this book I hadn’t. I wasn’t expecting this book to start dropping you right in at the deep end and from page one onwards this was a gut wrenching, heart breaking storm of emotion that will leave you sobbing into many packets of tissues for eons to come.
Ella has already lost her mother, but her dad Will has made a promise that he will never leave her. Unfortunately a tragic turn of events means that Will might not be able to keep that promise after all, but he is determined to make sure Ella is ok, what follows is slightly reminiscent of a Christmas Carol as we see what Will’s course of action could set into motion and he is left to make the biggest decision of his life by a looming deadline.
I can’t reveal too much about the storyline without giving away huge spoilers and in the case of this book I don’t want to do that. I really want everyone to experience this spoiler free (heart break and all) so you too can experience just how beautiful a story S D Robertson has woven. I defy any parent to not feel Will’s pain as he is faced with an impossible situation.
This is one of those unique books that once read will truly stay with you for a lifetime.
