Thank you to Dan Thompson for allowing us to take part in the blog tour for his new novel Here Lies Love.  This is a New Adult novel bridging the gap between Young adult and adult novels so is a darker story.  Telling the story of Abbey, held captive by the evil Stefan she is held in a cage, tortured and raped, when she escapes she is the sole survivor of his victims, but her escape isn’t into the world we know.

Set in a world of blue haze where schools and sunlight are a thing of the past, its a world where the survival of the fittest is key and that’s conveyed convincingly by Abby’s narrative.  She isn’t able to read but when it comes to fighting she isn’t afraid to give as good as she gets.

Meeting two boys Ryan and Tristan who are living in a school and themselves finding ways to survive through Abbey’s eyes we learn more about the world in which she lives and the extent of just how bad things are and how they got to be that way. Whilst beginning to settle in with the boys Abbey is still affected strongly by the abuse she has previously suffered and as a reader you are carried through the story wondering if she can overcome her past and come out on top.

For me I found the jump from the start of the story of captive Abbey to her escape a bit too fast so I couldn’t fully connect with her thoughts and feelings and how they affect her.  Overall though the story has a great arc and a few twists to keep the reader engaged on Abbey’s journey.  A warning though the story does deal with some dark concepts so it’s not one for the young or sensitive reader.

When she is sold by her father, Abbey discovers that nightmares can occur when you’re awake. Trapped inside a wooden cage, Abbey is forced to listen to the horrors and atrocities above; time ticking down until it is her turn. But Abbey isn’t prepared to become a victim; she will escape.

Although, what Abbey isn’t prepared for, is how harsh and unfair the world can be. With the sun turning its back on humanity long ago, life gives no opportunity. The only thing Abbey can do is learn to survive. To exist. And that means stealing any opportunity that comes her way. Haunted by the unpleasant memories bestowed upon her only nurtures Abbey’s paranoia, until she realises that to truly live in the world, she must confront the person who was responsible for her misfortune – her father.

Here Lies Love is a New Adult tale of actuality, of facing up to the fact that love comes in many guises. Can Abbey find the one glimmer of the hope or will she be overcome with the darkness of revenge?
