Wedding Bells at the Signal Box Cafe is the debut novel from Annette Hannah and is an absolutely delightful read, the perfect escape from reality during these difficult times. It is a story weaved with such beautiful detail, that as a reader I could vividly picture the settings. The characters were all beautifully described and so realistic that they jumped from the pages, each was so alive and full of character.
The story follows Lucy and her Grandfather in their renorvations of an old and unused Signal Box into a successful buisness venture. Lucy’s grandad had once been the Signalman and the Signal Box held many happy memories for them both during Lucy’s childhood. Lucy has grand dreams of making her new buisness venture a site for beautiful unique weddings after moving back to her grand parents old Railway Cottage looking for a new start. The story flips between the past and the present, telling us the story of Lucy’s happy childhood with her grandparents and in her quest for a new life as a wedding planner and whilst raising her son Jackson.
Throw in her grandfather Dougie in his residential home and some four legged friends and you know this one hell of a read. I was hooked from page one and enjoyed reading the story from different charcaters perspectives and the insights in to their pasts. I really felt Annette delivered such rounded and beautfil charcaters I could not help but fall in love with. I had a soft spot for Dougie, his antics gave me many a giggle and provided some much needed relief.
Wedding Bells at the Signal Box Cafe tackles some serious points and topics, but wraps it up within beautiful and vivid descriptions, and provides some true swoon worthy romance. Annette really hit the nail on the head with this book. It was a compelling read from page one and I could not put it down, pure magic is weaved within the pages of this novel and left me with a truly happy feeling long after I finished.
